Hello Again!

Okay, so I have been totally lacking in the blogging department!  The last few months have been so busy between family activities, capturing memories for some amazing families and new experiences that, well, my social media was the area that ended up getting put on the back burner.  I think it’s time to get caught up a little!

One of the more exciting events to happen this summer, business wise anyway, was I had the opportunity to take a workshop with the talented Barb Uil of Jinky Art Photography from Australia.  Three days were spent with Barb and a wonderful group of talented photographers.  Barb completely opened up and shared everything about her business, shooting style and where she finds inspiration, to even some more personal details such as balancing family life with running a successful business.

I love having the chance to study and mentor with other photographers.  So much can be learned, even from those with styles different than my own.  I feel this is such an important thing to do and it helps me grow as not only a photographer, but as a person as well.  Every opportunity offers something new and can give the me the chance to see things a little differently.  I enjoyed this experience so much, that I am already planning for another workshop next year!

Soon to be Four…

I was so excited to hear this wonderful family would soon be welcoming another little one into the world.  Tricia, you looked absolutely gorgeous and I am glad we were able to get together for your maternity session!

Father’s Day

What is a Dad?

A dad is someone who
wants to catch you before you fall
but instead picks you up,
brushes you off,
and lets you try again.

A dad is someone who
wants to keep you from making mistakes
but instead lets you find your own way,
even though his heart breaks in silence
when you get hurt.

A dad is someone who
holds you when you cry,
scolds you when you break the rules,
shines with pride when you succeed,
and has faith in you even when you fail…

With the last month flying by, I haven’t had a chance to write about Father’s Day.  Even though it was a few weeks ago, I still felt I needed to sit down and reflect on how I feel about my husband’s role in the family.  The last few years we have learned so much and grown closer together as a family.  It’s been almost three years since we began this journey known as parenthood and although there are times when we feel completely unqualified for the job (I’m sure we’ve all been there!!), there is one thing we can’t deny: our unconditional love for our son.
And yes, I think we can both agree that our little man is a total mama’s boy.  However as I sit back and watch the two of them together, there’s no denying how much he loves his daddy.  I love the way their faces light up when they are about to get into mischief, the way they giggle when dancing carefree in the kitchen (wiggle, wiggle, wiggle!!) and the laughter I hear at bath time.
I’d like to thank not just my husband, but my dad as well, for all the love and support they have given me and my family.  I appreciate the little things you do from diapers to under doggies on the swings, to the overabundance of applause given when Mason accomplishes the smallest of tasks.  Most of all, I thank you for simply being there and being a model example for Mason during such an impressionable time in his life.

Have you every hear of Pottery Parties in the Hills?  Tanya is the one to thank for helping us with our wonderful gifts this year.  A few neighbors and I planned a morning of painting frames for Dad with our little ones.  Tanya got everything organized for us, including take home kits for those who couldn’t make it that day and made sure everything was ready for our little ones to present to Dad on Father’s Day.  If you ever need a unique gift for a loved one with a personal touch, she is definitely the person to talk to! I love going into Tanya’s studio and being greeted by her warm smile and bubbly personality.  I am looking forward to more fun at the studio with Mason later this summer!

Almost time…

I have been lucky to know this glowing mom to be for awhile now.  She has always been such a happy bubbly person.  I was really honoured (and completely excited for her and hubby!) when she asked me to document such a special time their lives; the arrival of their first child.  It is amazing to be a part of such a wonderful milestone in a couple’s relationship.  And although during their sessions we discussed various things about baby, I couldn’t even begin to describe the incredible journey that is about to begin.  From the emotions felt when you hear that first cry to the overwhelming feelings of unconditional love they will have when holding baby tight, adding a little one to your family is one of the sweetest blessings you could have.  Congratulations to you both and I look forward to meeting your little one very soon!!

My Baby Sister

It’s not easy convincing a toddler that having their photo taken is an exciting thing to do!  They definitely don’t understand the value of capturing those special memories so they have them to look upon in future years.  They are less concerned about the future and more interested in living for the moment (like “I need a snack”; “wow that’s a cool little truck” or “hey was that a SQUIRREL?!?”).  Yes, they are easily distracted and become disinterested VERY quickly!

We managed to get a few images with this little guy before he something else caught his eye.  He and his mom share the most amazing eyes.  They completely sparkle in the light.  I am looking forward to seeing his little sister grow up and if she will share the same!

Carolyn - Thank you soooo much for the photos and the experience, Rebecca! You did a great job with, as your blog post says, a toddler who just won’t sit still for longer than half a second! Thank you for capturing my beautiful little girl and boy. These days sure do go by fast and I’m so happy to have some of those precious moments captured :)
