Little Chef

So I have something to admit…

After a busy fall season and seeing so many images of my clients’ family and children, I realized something.  I really don’t have a lot of images of my own family!  I guess it’s kind of like the “shoe cobbler’s kids have no shoes” or however the saying goes!  So one of my goals for 2012 is to make the time to document more of my son’s life.  I will be making a point to do his own “session” at least once a week, choosing to document an activity or something else that “him” at the moment.

Our first adventure, baking!  My little guy LOVES to be in the kitchen and has a huge obsession for kitchen utensils.  So much that he is seldom seen without a wooden spoon or spatula in his hand (including when he goes to bed!).:)

So as we were getting everything ready, and yes this was after I got him all excited about baking cupcakes, I realized that out of the probably 10 different flours in our house (we love to bake our own breads with ancient grains) we didn’t have any plain old white flour!  Luckily thanks to google we were able to figure out how to substitute.

So here is my Little Chef getting things ready…

I turn my back for one second…

Mixing and sifting the ingredients…

I am not really sure why he thought the winter boots were necessary to complete his ensemble…

What happens when Mr. Independent thinks he can do it “all by myself”…

Finishing touches:

And a very proud chef of his creations!!

Life is short and our kids grow up and change so much with the blink of an eye. I encourage you all to make sure you take the time to document the things that are important in life. How about starting a “Project 52 Weeks” of your own?

DCAFS Charity Event A Success!

On Sunday November 13, 2011, we held our first annual “Twas the Night Before Christmas” Charity Event in support of DCAFS.  Funds raised from the event went towards helping offset some of the costs associated with the holiday season for a local family in need.  If you are interested in sponsoring a family or would like more information on DCAFS Family Sponsorship Program, please contact Jacqueline Moore at (519) 941-1530 ext. 246.

We were overwhelmed by the response we had given this was our first year.  Our plan was to have a more intimate experience with Santa and we appreciated all those who pre registered for the event in order to have Santa’s “Naughty and Nice” list prepared.  Santa was to start the afternoon with story time for the families, however we had so many excited children arrive right for 11:00 that we needed to get going with visits and photos right away!

Some kids were very excited to see Santa like this little guy…

Others enjoyed story time…

And others didn’t know what to think…

I am happy to report between the event and tickets sold on our gift basket we raised almost $1000!  This allowed us to help two families from the Dufferin Community.  Toys on the children’s wish lists were purchased as well as some necessities and gift cards for groceries, gas and clothing.  We also had a number of guests bring in their gently used winter coats for our coat drive.  I am very proud and thankful to be a part of such a caring community!

A special thanks to Erica Edelbrock from Orangeville Furniture for our beautiful tree, Michelle McCallum from Finely Focused for capturing some images at the event, and to my wonderful neighbor, Lisa, for helping at the craft table.  Last but not least, a big thank you to Santa who took the time out of his busy schedule to visit with us!  I would also like to congratulate Cynthia F on being the winner of our amazing gift basket!

On behalf of Pia, Kathleen, Miyeko, and myself, we appreciate everyone’s support and look forward to seeing you all again next year.  Plans are already underway to make the event even better for 2012!  Thank you all so much and have safe and happy holiday season!

Just a reminder and in continuation of the spirit of the season, I will be drawing for a basket of goodies from Pia’s Bakery for one lucky fan of my Facebook page.  Winner will be announced early in the week!

Family Love…

“The love of a family is life’s greatest blessing…”

I’m hoping I’m not jinxing myself by saying this, but I have been very fortunate to have so many beautiful families in the studio.  Take this one for example; a Dad that lights up when he talks about his girls, an incredible Mom that takes such amazing care of her family and two of the sweetest girls you could ever meet.  It was such a privilege to be able to capture their love and friendship and create memories that can be cherished years from now.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful family with me!
